A few things happened in the last week or so.
In tech news, Google laid out 3.2 billion dollars to buy Nest, a company best known for thermostats that resemble Hal 9000. Some are worried that people using Bing may suddenly find their houses freezing them out, but the risk is mitigated by the fact nobody is using Bing.
The sale was good news for bankrupt firm, Nestor Inc. which saw it’s stock prices soar as eager investors tried to get in on the action and mistook it’s market symbol for Google’s newest division. And I thought all those people investing in Powerball tickets were suckers.
Staying in the digital realm, there was controversy this week when both Android and Apple app stores pulled an app that let users perform plastic surgery on an avatar named Barbie. Still available is a partnerĀ app that let’s you know what skinny avatars used to be fat, so you know who has low self esteem at the avatar bar.
In celebrity news, Justin Beiber found himself on the wrong side of a police raid following an alleged egg-throwing incident in his high-end neighborhood North of Los Angeles. Deputies commandeered extensive security footage from his home, but so far have only found surveillance of The Beibs posing for selfies in various mirrors.
Finally, I’m just getting around to this story about a man in Kansas City who drove himself to the hospital after being shot in the head. My favorite part of this story is that he drove because his friend was too intoxicated. Please remember: never drink so much that somebody with a gunshot wound in the head is the better choice to get home safely.
Have a great weekend!
