This interview from NPR Morning Edition’s “Conversations on Route 50” series is pretty mediocre — they interview a stereotypical evangelical from my hometown of Hutchinson, KS and then a moderate from the Kansas City suburbs to balance things out.
It’s worth a listen for when they get to the real star of the show, a good old fashioned big city hick from the Missouri side of Kansas City.
Skip to the end to hear how he dismisses the talk about politics and moral issues to wax poetic about the “Miracle at Arrowhead” that put the Chiefs into the NFL playoffs.
I can just hear him on the phone with NPR’s producers after they ask for his opinions about how conservative morality should be weighed by the current policy makers: “Can’t we just talk about football?”
